Added something about Metaprogramming in I Love Ruby

I Love Ruby 2012 cover

Hello Folks,

Added something about meta programming in I Love Ruby. The book is available for download in this link http://goo.gl/FW6slH

Today something happened about this book. There is a rails guy in my office, he called me to his place and said I know a Ruby book written by local guys and it LOOKS …..

He opened it and it was my book he was taking about. But by some means in all these years he had missed I had written it. He showed the picture of Kannan Dos and said, look he is our local guy. I told him to scroll a little up by a page and there he saw my picture and was surprised and shocked. I am happy that he is recommending this book to all people who are beginning to learn Ruby. I’m honored.

He was travelling in my car at the end of the day. He complained about the cover and how this book will blast if the covers are changed. Well I like that shriya and anushka pictures. To my eyes they are beautiful. The source of book is given in the book. Any one can download it, change the covers and redistribute it as this book is written under GFDL license.

I Love Ruby is.gd link is deactivated

Hello Folks,

Was surprised to find out that that is.gd url for my book I Love Ruby has been deactivated (visit http://is.gd/ruby_buk ). Don’t know really why. Any way you can download the book from https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/ofv8niemukazruy/ilr2014.pdf?token_hash=AAEBMJ6cJewRQcDybW4kCB6NCWuY5qVtNIR6btkax9gBhg&dl=1

It also looks like someone wants to crash my on-line assets as WordPress log show that yesterday in a span of 2 hours my blog has upto 300 visitors, out of it was just 28 of them unique. Some one seems to be angry with me for something and wants to attack me.

Any way I have backed up data so that if things crash, I can rise up from ashes. so lets see! 🙂 Just got the logs and tracing who had done it. Any wordpress employee out there to throw light on this issue?

Why Nokia and Apple are waste

Nokia (which is nothing but now Microsoft)  and Apple are absolutely waste. This blog discusses why.

Well, Nokia was once phone leader. Almost every phone sold in developing world was Nokia, and it dominated the markets of developed world too. When Nokia made low tech phones, Samsang about 6 years back was rolling out smart phones that was quiet crap, so almost none got Samsung. Samsung had great ideas on how phones should be, but the hardware did not advance much to Samsungs expectations.

Then came Steve Jobs. Though an idiot who must have been hated by his engineers, he had excellent powers of persuasion and believed what he thought was right. Though iPhone and even the iPod were not his idea, he made the world believe it was his. He created mass hysteria, so these devices sold a lot, makers making the parts for it, for example SSD (solid state drives) have to increase production and reduce cost.

With these new devices, apple started to put patents like slide to unlock, ignoring the fact that for thousands of years humans have used door locks that need to slide to be unlocked!!! And those Apple stupids claim it as their own ingenious invention. Never mind, human heard of goat heads got excited and got bought products.

Apples operating system and hardware are proprietary, meaning say you want to tinker with it, like add a chip to iPhone to increase its memory, Apple will sue you or at least make your phone not work. Even if you want to install a software, Apple must know about it.

Google on the other hand does want users to not use Google on phones. Plus since phones and tablets are networked devices, Google wanted them to get connected to its servers all the time so that they can know about you, monitor you and give out best results depending on your activity. For example if you text your friend that you can’t manage your child, Google will pick it up and it will recommend a child psychiatrist or a baby sitter. If Google knows that you have problem with your spouse, it will recommend you a marriage counselor or a divorce lawyer and would collect advertising fees. Google clearly realized that people accessed internet more on handhelds than desktops or laptops. So it created an operating system called Android and gave it away free.

Samsung, HT and other companies took this Android, modified them to their wish and put them on in their phones. Google cleverly made it opensource so that more people started to write software for Android. This ensured that there will be more software available on Android than iPhone or a Windows phone. Apple and Nokia-Microsoft started to tremble, and possible annihilation was on the horizon.

Unable to compete technically and unable to generate ideas that would keep them on market, they bought companies which had stupid patents (similar to slide to unlock) and have formed a consortium called Rockstar alliance along with good for nothing blackberry. Now hey are planning to sue Android phone makers like HTC and Samsung and hope that this irritation will make them stay more longer on the market.

Patents suck, the world need to realize that. Patents stem innovation and competition. Patents serve only huge companies that are unable to compete with little organizations, sue them so that little ones will go bankrupt just fighting the case against big ones. Wonder when humanity will truly take a step against patents?

If you read this blog, please stop buying Nokia or iPhone or any of Apple or Microsoft products (any way none buys a blackberry). These companies are only interested in making money by filling patent suits on innovations that benefit humanity. They want to earn money and retard intellectual progress and freedom of human race.

Buy Android phones or better Ubuntu Phone.

300 hits on day one

I Love Ruby 2012 cover

So, I just added loop to Loops section and released my Ruby programming book I Love Ruby yesterday about 5:00 PM Indian Time. You can get it on http://is.gd/ruby_buk . I set the is.gd url shortening service to track it. And the result is this http://is.gd/stats.php?url=ruby_buk , around 300 hits the first day. It baffled me.

Thank you people. Hope you benefit out it. I also thank The Pirate Bay. Without its Ebook section I would have never learned top class Ruby and never been inspired to share my work with the world. This book is absolutely free. Even its source is available. So share it with your friends, modify it, redistribute it.

About the covers

I Know many people in India, and those who haven’t seen a movie or a supermodel or a girl ever in their life have complained about the covers. All I can say to them is this: Stay young.

Whats More

If I have time (the universe is too chaotic to predict anything), I might add meta-programming chapter. Or meta-programming might be woven then and there in the book. Please write the comments about the book to my email mindaslab@gmail.com or join its facebook group https://www.facebook.com/pages/I-love-ruby/172269549451705

Freedom of expression should prevail

tux

I am quiet dismayed by the fact  that Linux Kernel Mailing List is now intruded by big brother companies and they want it to be kind of moderated. The author here http://www.internetnews.com/blog/skerner/is-it-time-to-restore-civility-to-linux-development.html says he supports it. THE HELL.

First companies like Intel and Nvidia must understand ‘The Hacker Culture’. A hacker is a free person (who thinks he is THE GOD), change his feelings and he might not be as creative as he would be. Yes in mailing lists of open-source software around the world, there are abusive words, hard for newbies to take it in, that’s how it was, and that’s how it will be, and that’s how creative minds works. No secrets, just blunt honesty. If a company or person cannot tolerate it, may it be out of it. None begged them to develop Linux Kernel.

If Intel thinks it has truly got smart people than those who develop the Linux, it must put out its own OS! Thereby proving people who are introverts can build a better OS. Simple.

OR

Hello Intel, if you want a brahmin sugar coated talk, tell your employees to goto a Marketing guys mailing list dominated by MBA’s.
